“He who removed the defect that prevented me from walking”

The deep feelings of a maveeran´s sister

My dear brother Rajan…

When I was two years old, our mother gave birth to you. I was unable to walk from birth. When you were five years old, when you were small, I would hold you on my lap and play with you. When my mother was taking care of the housework, she would tell me to look at you. If you come near me and hold me tight, you will hit me and run away. I can’t even walk. I can’t even run.

“Hold me, sister.” How can I hold you? I cry. Then you will ask, ‘Why are you crying, sister?’ I cry saying that I couldn’t hold you. You will ask, “Why can’t you run, sister?” I will say, “I don’t know.”

Until you were seven years old, my mother used to do all my duties for me. From the age of seven, you started doing all my duties for me. You put me on a three-wheeled bicycle and rolled around, overcoming the disadvantage of not being able to walk. You moved like my legs. The sorrow of not being able to walk was taken away from me, you were not my younger brother, you were my life. I was you.

I will never forget the incident that happened one day when we were playing when we were little. You pushed me into the house on your bicycle. I was a little overweight. It was a little difficult for you to push at that time.

You said, “I can´t push this fat,” and pushed me away. Then I picked up the table knife that was on the table nearby and threw it. The knife hit your shoulder. Blood flowed from your shoulder. I don’t know what happened after that.

I woke up and saw that I was in bed. Mother and you were next to me. A cloth was tied around your left shoulder at that time…

“Akka, akka! I won’t call you a fat anymore. No matter how far I go, I will push you on my bicycle. Get up. You fainted because I called you a fat.” It was like I was dreaming. It was only when I saw the blood and said that I had fainted from the bicycle that I knew what had happened.

How can I forget the scene where you cried for me after seeing me faint, forgetting the crime I had committed due to my anger? We both grew up like flesh and blood.

Five years ago, you joined us for our freedom. Since then, I have been riding my bicycle myself.

Why? For our freedom! How can I bear it? The one who acted as my legs and solved the problem. The one who cried for me even when I caused a bloody wound. The one who lived like flesh and blood.

My heart felt like it exploded when I heard the news that you sacrificed yourself for this country and the people and became maveeran. Your heroic death has given us even more strength. Our father had been involved in the freedom struggle since you. Our mother, who gave birth to us, has also decided to follow in your footsteps.

Even though I cannot follow in your footsteps, which you have followed with the dream of freedom for the motherland, I will follow you on my bicycle. I will make your dream come true. This is a certainty, my dear brother!
