Lieutenant Sri (Tigerthevan) – Heroic historical memories

Lieutenant Siri (Tigerthevan)
Thambipillai Senthilnathan
Pudur, Mattacalappu
Birth: 12.08.1964
Death: 10.09.1988

Event: Heroic death in a battle with Indian troops in the Thalanguda area of Mattacalappu district.

As much as Kashi played a role in building Tamil nationalism in the Mattacalappu region, Jayam (Valluvan) played an equal role in building and developing the Tamileelam Liberation Front organization.

Kashi´s younger brother can be said to be his personal secretary. He used to convey Kashi´s messages to his trusted people and take him wherever Kashi wanted to go. In short, he lived like his shadow. He worked to build our movement as a movement based on those who were firm in their courageous ideals.

He had the opportunity to get close to the public because he was also a malaria prevention officer. He used all these acquaintances to develop the freedom struggle. The fighters of the Mattacalappu region know his greatness very well. In any crisis, they should protect him. Their opinion is that his protection will help protect the movement.

Who is the right person to protect him?

At that critical time when the Indian Army was searching for the LTTE, who could operate efficiently on both water and land?

Finally, they concluded. The incident in which Laxman was saved by Tigerthevan himself, who was the one who could do this job.

Laxman was entrusted with the responsibility of executing the death sentence of Samthambimuthu, who had contacted the Sri Lankan police on behalf of the citizens’ group and later became a Tamil traitor.

The city of Mattacalappu is an area called Puliyanthivu, surrounded by water on all sides. The house of the traitor Samthambimuthu was located within this. He had thought that since there were camps on both sides of the road leading to the island, the LTTE would not be able to approach him. Some traitors who had been imported from India were guarding his house. Somehow Lakshman entered the house.

Laxman with a pistol in front of Samthambimuthu. The pistol had already broken his leg. Laxman tried to shoot the pistol, which had become one, two or three, repeatedly by removing the semolina and breaking it. He also fell. They decided to tie him up and hand him over to the Indian army. The Indian army, having learned about the information, also surrounded the area.

At this time, Tigerthevan entered with an AK in his hand. His AK warned the traitors. That’s all, everyone ran away in fear of their lives. He put Laxman on his shoulder and ran.

The natural environment was unfavorable for us, surrounded by swamps on all sides. Meanwhile, a siege was being laid against them, but somehow Tigerthevan managed to escape their sight and carried Laxman in a canoe. The canoe, which was tearing through the water, proved that the LTTE could create a storm with its oars.

When Laxman was being lowered from the canoe that reached the shore, Laxman consoled Tigerthevan. “You will catch him. Time has proven his statement. The occasion happened when he was with Jayam. Someone had betrayed their place in Thalanguda. Only when he got close could he see the Indian army.”

He said, I would not let him near Jeyam if I am alive. In a few seconds, his AK became silent. And the cyanide was in Jayam´s mouth.

The Paduvankarai area of Mattacalappu – It was in this area that he was engaged in propaganda work by 1985. The Bandariyaveli Nagathambiran temple in this area is very famous. On the annual Pongal day, a large number of devotees gather here to pay their vows. The city of Mattacalappu itself crosses the river and comes to Bandariyaveli. These scenes are not the only ones we have lost today. The singing fish music we hear at the Kalladippalam. The sound of the Paduvankarai, the sound of the thundering of the Aval in the early morning at Sidthandi. All these are what we have lost.

Instead of these, the sounds of misery and the sounds of the Buddhist priests visiting the camps of those responsible for those miseries are resounding loudly.

The sound of the guns of the younger generation of LTTE who are changing this situation is increasing widely. The Nagathambiran temple loudspeaker will speak again. It is certain that freedom will prevail in this land on that day.
