Lt. Col. Suban – Heroic historical memories

Lt. Col. Suban
Vinasithambi Sundaralingam
Tamieelam: Mannar District
Birth: 21.07.1965
Death: 25.09.1992

Suban took over as the Special Commander of Mannar District in 1989. During the time that Lt. Col. Victor was serving as the Special Commander of Mannar District, Suban participated in many attacks and played a special role in the Silapathurai camp bombing attack, the attack on the Mannar Old Bridge, the attack on the Gajawatte Army Camp, the attack on the patrol troops on the Nanattan Vangalai Road, the attack on the Kokkupadayan Army Camp, and the air-sea attack on the Aanayiravu Army Camp.

Finally, on 25.09.92, in an attack on the Pallikuda camp in Poonagari, Lt. Col. Suban and 5 other fighters became maveerar in a heroic battle that destroyed two Sri Lankan army mini-camps and 62 garrisons.

We are a nation. Our country is ours. We want a prosperous and peaceful life in that country. It is enough that we have been slowly dying in the hands of oppression over time. Since the time when we thought that, when the peaceful paths of freedom, hunger strikes, and peaceful protests were suppressed with strong weapons and our voices were crushed and choked, the people of Tamileelam rose up to break the grip of those powerful hands and are removing them one by one.

With the Tirunelveli attack in 1983, many youths were gradually joining the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and becoming fighters. The army and the government took away all the rights of the people of Tamileelam one by one. The SL soldiers were setting foot on all the roads of Tamileelam, and Suban (Sundaralingam) was one of those who felt their heart swell and joined the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 1984.

‘Suban’ was born on Monday, 21st of July 1965 in a village called Kalliyadi, in the Mannar district of Tamileelam. He was born as the beloved son of Vinasithambi and Mahilamma, among twelve siblings. He started his education in Kalliyadi and later continued his education at the Mahavidyalaya in a neighboring village. His parents’ given name was Sundaralingam. His affectionate name was Maniam. As a freedom fighter, he was given the name Suban in the camp of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Suban, who joined the freedom struggle as an armed fighter in 1984, completed his weapons training in India and then special commando training and served as the bodyguard of leader Prabhakaran. Later, he came to Tamileelam to fight in the field.

In his native Mannar, he fought shoulder to shoulder with the then Mannar District Commander Victor. He fought very skillfully during the time when he had to wage a fierce struggle with the Indian troops who were raising the flag of peace and became the Special Commander of the Mannar District in 1989.

Suban became maveeran in the Mannar Poonagari attack, where he destroyed two mini camps and 62 guard posts and seized a large number of weapons.
