The fighter with a commanding voice on the battlefields – Lt. Col. Thadchayini

The fighter with a commanding voice on the battlefields – Lt. Col. Thadchayini 03.11.1965 – 04.08.1997

There is an old warrior who appears in Kalki’s “Ponniyin Selvan”. His name is Periya Paluvettaiyar. That brave warrior has sixty-four scars on his body. If our Thadchayini is like Periya Paluvettaiyar, one of Thadchayini´s friends said a little proud, and it is true. If you stand and count the scars on Thadchayini´s body, it will be more than sixty-four.

Thadchayini!

The fierceness she showed in the battlefields, the love she had for the fighters who stood with her, her care, her upbringing, and above all, her punishment in moments of error, all came together to establish her as a personality among us. The commanding voice that rang majestically in most of the battlefields that the LTTE Women’s Brigade encountered was lost to the fire-breathing battlefield on the morning of 1997.08.04. She had received many injuries in many battlefields, survived, and would not leave the battlefield even when there was no room for further injuries.

She has a long list of guard posts destroyed, including Palaly guard posts, Manalaru Kalam, Mandaithhivu, Suriyakathir, Poonagari, and Thondaimanaru Otakapulam. A skilled fighter. She suffered a major injury to her hip and shoulder joint in the Poonagari battle.

“You can’t keep training and fighting with these guys. Do external administrative work,” was told to her.  But she didn’t listen, saying, “I can do it, I will keep fighting.”

During the Manalaru Lightning Battle, she suffered a major wound to her stomach, and with her intestines pulled out and packed inside, she walked for half an hour to the medical facility without anyone’s help to draw blood. There are many more such incidents to show her bravery.

When she is stationed in relatively calm police stations, the patrolling she conducts there is incalculable. And that too in the coastal police stations, Thadchayini will catch crabs and cook them deliciously. She will feed the younger fighters in her group herself. She has the patience, character and discipline of a mother.

She was seriously injured in Suryakathir 01. The projectile pierced her cheek muscles along with her ear and caused a serious wound to her chest.

Once her group was stationed at a guard post. At that time, she herself climbed a tree and gave some water to a fighter in her group, ignoring her fever and stomach wound that was not healing. She went alone without anyone knowing and held her stomach and cried.

A fighter who always had a strong attachment to the welfare of the movement, the organization, and above all, our leader. A very capable fighter. Every day spent with her was a vivid memory for every fighter. They never left her heart.

You will always be in my heart, in my memories.
