TOWARDS OUR PLACES – Maasaar

Maasaaar is a village in the Pachchilaipalli Divisional Secretariat, in the Kilinochchi District, between the Jaffna District and the Kilinochchi District in the north of Eelam. This is ancient village is associated with the ancient people and with people from places like Uduthurai, Varani, Maruthangeni and Sarasaalai.

Maasaar means “maa”, which means horse. Maasaar has historically been a place where kings and horse cavalry were associated with the royal line. As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, the government is not taking any action to study the Tamil archeological evidence in Sri Lanka. They fear that the myths and legends compiled here will be proven wrong. The rulers of the country is still racially entrenched. The rulers are non-Tamils and will therefore not accept the proof that Tamils ruled Sri Lanka in the beginning. The rulers maintain their position and post by not say anything about this truth.

People in Maasaar are earning their income from industries, upland cultivation, and plantation crops as coconut and from animal farming.

These ponds use rainwater as a source of water and these reservoirs are very helpful to the upland cultivation of Maasaar. Our ancestors had faith on their natural resources. These resources are still l the foundation of our economic prosperity today. We can see this through the ponds and resources surrounding a village called Maasaar.

Maasaar has about 250 acres of fields and 650 acres of coconut plantations. Maasaar Tamil Kalaivan School is a government school in Maasaar that give education to the people in Maasaar.

Even during the war, the village Maasaar had sacrifices as high as the coconut trees here. Maasaar had given many heroes to the war of Tamileelam.
