Manuneethi Cholan

King Ellalan also known as Manu Neethi Cholan was a famous Choza king who ruled from Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu. Manu Neethi Cholan means a Chola who followed Manu Smriti, the Hindu law maker. Lot of Tamil epigraphs and copper plate inscriptions also praised Tamil kings as strict followers of Manu Smriti.

This statue of “Manu Needhi Konda Cholan” (Meaning: The Chola who upheld the Law of Manu) adorns the premises High Court of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. The King is famous for his integrity to the law.

He had ruled a part of Sri Lanka from 205 BC to 161 BC including the ancient capital of Anuradhapura.
