“Mr. Lalith Athulat Mudali and Mr. Premadasa, who were considered

“Mr. Lalith Athulat Mudali and Mr. Premadasa, who were considered the guardian gods of Sinhala ‘Buddhist chauvinism, were murdered within a nine-day interval.

With the death of these two great political leaders and the controversies and impacts that these murders have caused in Sri Lankan politics, the political stability of the Sinhala nation has also become questionable.

Lalith was shot at 8.45 pm on April 23rd at an election campaign meeting held in Kirulapanna for the Provincial Council elections. After he spoke on stage for seven minutes, he was shot dead by a young man with a gun who came close to the stage about 10 or 15 feet in front of him.

The J. N. M. party immediately issued a statement that the government was responsible for the murder of Athulat Mudali. The opinion of most Sinhalese people, and indeed the end of the world. That is it.

Lalith had grown to be Premadasa’s primary political opponent and a man with the personality and political influence to usurp Premadasa’s highest office. Therefore, the opinion that Premadasa killed Lalith to consolidate his power is widespread.

This opinion is not just a rumor based on speculation. The Sinhalese people have many sources for Premadasa’s bloodstained political life. His enemies allege that Premadasa’s political life – in recent times – was nurtured by murders, tortures and beheadings.

It is no exaggeration to say that Premadasa created a political tradition in the Sinhalese political arena that sought to defeat opposition by eliminating political opponents.

This ruthless political tradition culminated in the suppression of the JVP rebellion that had seen sudden growth due to the Indo-Ceylon Agreement. From that time until his death, Premadasa tried to strengthen his political base by ending the lives of his political opponents in a perfect manner.

It was from this realistic situation that Premadasa was accused of Lalith’s murder. Demoralized by the angry condemnation of the opposition parties and the newspapers,

Premadasa tried to escape by lamenting, “… I am not only a person who does not harm humans but also animals,” but he met his death in a grisly manner on May 1st at noon.

While he was rejoicing in the May Day procession in Colombo, Premadasa was killed by a bomb near the Amar Road intersection. It was a human bomb.

The Sinhalese police have blamed the LTTE for both murders. Independent newspapers and foreign journalists have portrayed the murders as internal problems of the Sinhalese nation and as revenge.

In-depth investigations and studies into the backgrounds of the brutal murders of these two Sinhala leaders are not carried out here. It is necessary to review the details of the role these two men played in the war on the Tamil people.

These two men are the same men who were created in the chauvinistic library of the great racist J. R. Jayewardene, who in 1977 asked the Tamils who stood empty-handed as targets of the racist attacks of the Sinhala ghouls, “War? Peace?” with a smile.

Both were of the same opinion in committing genocide by killing and hunting the Tamil people and driving them from their homes.

Premadasa does not act like Atulath Muthali, who explains his anti-Tamil actions in the style of J. R., in a rude manner.

Like an innocent and a compassionate dreamer, he has been talking and making statements on the outside, while on the other hand he has been engaged in the most serious and perfect destruction of the Tamil nation.

In the last 10 years, when the lives and property of the Tamils were brought under the authority of these two, about 30,000 Tamils have been massacred.

Mr. Athulath Muthali, who assumed the post of Minister of National Security in 1984, modernized the army with the aim of weakening the Tamil nation and unleashed a systematic military atrocity on the Tamil people.

Lalith had ordered the army to wipe out many Tamil villages in the Manalaru, Thiriconamalai, Mattacalappu and Amparai districts within a few hours and drive out the Tamils, while at the same time he ordered the army to hunt down Tamil youths through raids and arrests throughout Tamileelam.

As a result, many innocent villagers were killed. Many were displaced as refugees.

Pusa concentration camps and detention camps became the abodes of Tamil youth.

New forms of torture were used on Tamils.

At the same time, Atulath Muthali was also the mastermind behind the barrel bombs, which were aimed solely at destroying civilians and their property.

Lalith, who was flying in an Avro plane with some barrel bombs, had directed a barrel bomb attack on Yarlpanam. One of these bombs fell on devotees engaged in evening prayers at the Vaitheeswaran temple in Yarlpanam and exploded. It is noteworthy that 10 people were killed in the attack.

Despite warnings from international countries that similar massive losses of life and property would occur, Lalith decided to launch an invasion of the North. In that military operation

Operation Liberation – more than 100 people were killed. Property worth crores of rupees were also destroyed. In addition, most of the population of North Marathi was displaced as refugees.

To top it all off, Athulath was directly responsible for the arrest of twelve senior LTTE commanders including Pulenthiran and Kumarappa, in violation of the provisions of the Indo-Sri Lankan Agreement.

  1. R. had stated that Lalith had said that he would resign only if the arrested LTTE commanders were not brought to Colombo.

There is a summary of this incident in a cutting published in the ‘Sunday Times’ dated 2/5/93.

The author writes:
I asked Lalith if he had already guessed that this would happen [that they would die of cyanide if they tried to bring him to Colombo]; Lalith immediately replied. ‘Whatever I wanted to happen, that is what happened.'”

In other words, this shows how Lalith planned and led the LTTE’s incomparable commanders into a death trap.

Premadasa was the only one who stood in the way of Lalith’s ambition for power. While he was determined to bring down Prema, Lalith was determined to destroy the LTTE.

An hour before he was killed, Lalith said at a party meeting:

We are now targeting the elephant. It is certain to fall. At the same time, the tiger should not escape. We must think deeply and act.”

After the assassination of Lalith, Premadasa was known to the Sinhalese people as a cruel man. That feeling had penetrated the Sinhalese people deeply when Premadasa was also killed. As a result, the Sinhalese people were not shocked by Premadasa’s murder. They were not angry with anyone. They said that everything happened according to karma and remained silent.

It is a well-known story that Mr. Premadasa, after assuming office as President, ordered the killing of 60,000 people from the Sinhalese community, claiming that he was suppressing the JVP rebellion, and calling them his political opponents – dissidents.

Meanwhile, Premadasa continued to carry out the Tamil genocide that J. R. had intensified.

For the past three years, he has mercilessly targeted the Tamil people. He continued to wage war. He imposed a complete economic blockade on the Tamils, including a food embargo, a medicine embargo, a fuel embargo, a production embargo, and a transport embargo, and he has been oppressing the Tamil nation.

During these three years, Premadasa has never accepted the requests made by many public organizations and individuals in the name of humanity to declare a ceasefire and to lift the economic sanctions.

At the same time, Premadasa completely rejected the ceasefire demands and peace signals made to Premadasa by the LTTE leadership, both publicly and through some well-intentioned individuals. Instead, he has been expanding the war against the Tamils by purchasing new fighter jets and weapons of mass destruction.

It is during these three years of Premadasa’s rule that the Tamil nation has experienced unprecedented suffering – destruction – and misery. Especially the loss of life suffered in southern Tamileelam land grabbing is also worse than at any other time.

A journalist in Colombo wrote that the Sinhalese people still do not realize that Premadasa, more than any other Sinhalese leader, was the one who worked harder to divide the united North and East.

Premadasa’s true nature was a man who was incomprehensible to ordinary people.

Although he appeared to be a peacemaker and a believer in negotiations, and a moderate overall, he was a cruel man. A reprint of the dangerous Sinhala-Buddhist chauvinism.

A just solution to the Tamil ethnic problem cannot be expected from Premadasa.

Premadasa’s solution to the ethnic problem was to destroy the national strength of the Tamils through military force and to blunt their demand for rights.

Premadasa’s main goal. To consolidate his power in Colombo to strengthen and protect. For that, he has used this war well.

To portray himself as a tyrant among the Sinhalese people and to elevate himself to a high position in politics, he has now taken off the anti-India mask he once wore and has started adopting a pro-India policy with the aim of protecting and maintaining his power and preventing his political opponents from gaining strength. In this way, he has strengthened his relationship with the Indian government and further intensified his war on the Tamils.

In this way, two Sinhalese leaders who led the Sinhalese forces against the Tamils’ liberation struggle for the past 10 years have been killed in succession. This is an important issue of this year.

It is speculated that the killings of these two will bring about major political changes on the island of Sri Lanka.
