Nagalingam’s son Anand (23) was from Annavally near Kadaloor.
He was a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. He set himself on fire on Sunday evening, March 15, 2009, urging the protection of Eelam Tamils.
Anand was heartbroken that countries including India had not taken action to stop the killing of innocent Tamils in Eelam. In this situation, suddenly, standing in the middle of the street outside his house, he set himself on fire, shouting “Long live the Sri Lankan Tamils!” and “The war in Sri Lanka must end.”
Although many people tried to stop him from setting himself on fire, he pushed them all away and set himself on fire in a second. The locals admitted him to the Puthucherry Government Hospital. He died on Tuesday morning, March 17.
