New Tamil Tigers
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam took its historic birth in the latter part of 1972. Prabhakaran, who created this organization under the name of New Tamil Tigers, spent the early years in providing weapons training to his comrades and developing a war plan without rushing into the field.
Considering the real situation of the day, the geographical nature of Tamileelam, and the military strength of the enemy, Prabhakaran concluded that it was appropriate to carry out the armed struggle based on a long-term guerrilla war.
Prabhakaran, who coined the ideal lines of ‘The thirst of the Tigers is the homeland of Tamileelam’ from the very beginning, set the fundamental goal of the Tigers to restore Tamileelam and establish an independent state.
The emergence of the Liberation Tigers was a major historical event of the decade of the seventies and a major turning point in the national freedom struggle of Tamileelam.
The LTTE movement emerged from a violent upsurge that had no direction and was determined to wage a long-term armed struggle. With the birth of the LTTE, a new revolutionary history was born.
