On August 18, 1985, the first training camp of the female LTTE was officially inaugurated.
If a child playing in the streets of the Tamileelam state were asked about their mother, the answer they would most likely get would be, “She is out for fight.” This single sentence contains the entire dimension of the “Prabhakaran´s time” on women’s liberation.
As women, wives, mothers, and fighters, the women of Tamileelam stood tall as a symbol of freedom. Through this, the woman in Tamileelam not only liberated herself, but also took on a fierce form that liberated the community and the nation.
There are not only regional-geopolitical reasons for the selection of the Tamileelam state as a target to be destroyed by the current world order, but also many other reasons.
This female social change that “Prabhakaran´s time” embodied was also something that was needed by the Indian ruling class. The Indian “unity” was created as a single nation by standing on the path of the epic legends of Hinduism and through the caste, religious, and female oppression systems.
Knowing that a single nation would completely break these and become an example for the world, the Indian Union would turn the nationalities into a flock of sheep that would leave the fold. The fact that they could not be tied down for a long time through this fake thread was a further reason for the destruction of the Tamileelam regime.
Because of this, women continue to be the target of ethnic cleansing until today. The basis and source of an ethnicity are women. The deep political background of targeting those women originates from the thoughts of ethnic cleansing. In this structured ethnic cleansing, we often lose women.
The lives of our ethnic women are being plundered due to many economic and life-threatening problems after May 18. As well as many psychological problems and sexual contradictions. This leads to many social ruins and social differences. This is what the ethnic cleansing government expects. Because it has subtle backgrounds of ethnic cleansing.
The military strength, fighting ability, and military leadership of Tamil women have been recorded as a history during the time of the LTTE. Tamil women have accomplished military feats that are unimaginable and cannot be recorded even in Kollywood movies.
In the Tamileelam liberation struggle, the national leader Prabhakaran restored the strength of women. He remade them as themselves.
This is a great history that needs to be discussed in the feminist arena regarding the Tamileelam liberation struggle. It is a revenge against the Tamil community that has risen on such a platform that Tamil women have been targeted as the target of ethnic cleansing.
The background to this is to speed up the genocide that has been built by sowing the mentality of ‘slaves, losers’ in the Tamil society. This is the tactic of targeting women at all levels.
Therefore, instead of falling victim to this, let us continue to talk about the bravery and sacrifice of women – let us record it in history – and pass it on to the next generation.
