Venni Kaladi, also known as “Periya Kaladi, was an 18th-century CE general, valiant warrior and martyr of Poolithevan, the administrative and military governor who ruled Nerkattumseval, situated in the Sankarankoil taluk, (modern day; Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu) Khan Sahib ( a formal title given to enforcers of British India occupation ), Mohammad Yousuf Khan, defeated in Vasudevanallur battle, took charge again in extending the English’s occupation on indigenous tamil land.
In the heat of battle, during close quarter combat, Venni Kaladi’s abdominal was cut open and he strip the cloth off his head-wear & wrapped it around his abdomen in order to continue the battle further. Upon securing the victory of the battle, Venni-kaladi delivered the news of victory to his governor;
Poolithevan and died on his lap.
