Ravana Cave is where he hid Sita.

Ravana Cave is where he hid Sita.

Historically speaking, the Ramayana indicates that Ravana kidnapped Sita and hid her in many caves in Ilangapuri. Ravana’s cave is one of the caves where he hid Sita.

Elle town is located 11 km from Bandarawela in the Uva province of  Eelam, commonly known as Sri Lanka, due to ongoing colonial violence. This Ravana cave is located on a hill 2 km away from the centre of the city.  Ravana’s cave is 50 feet wide, 150 feet long and 60 feet high, made of stone.  It is situated at an altitude of 4490 feet above sea level.

No one can go to Ravana’s cave at any time they choose. You’ll only be able to visit from 8 am to 5 pm.  This is the entrance to the cave. It is locked in the morning and opens at 8 o’clock.

It is through these steps that we can go towards the cave. There are more than a thousand steps designed vertically, parallel and full of curves.

You can reach the top in about half an hour.

On the way to the cave, the chirping of sparrows and waterfalls soothes the mind.

Reaching the height, there is a joyous moment. Slowly the feet move towards the cave…

After a short distance, we have to go among the rocks without stones.

After that, we go to the dark caves. The cave is like a stone stacked on top of one dark stone… Rays of sunlight enter through the gaps of those stones…

Why did sages meditate in caves? When entering the cave, you achieve a sense of alleviation and peace of mind as only the sound of sparrows can be heard. You are blessed if you visit this cave at least once in your life with happiness in mind.
