The historic day when the Tamil fighters attacked the Kokkulai camp (13.02.1985)
For the first time in history, the Tamil troops, led by Commanders Mathaiah, Pulenthi Amman and Aruna, besieged and attacked a camp. The martyrdom of sixteen fighters was an unimaginable loss at that time. Even though the attack did not yield a major victory, this attack served as training and a lesson for all subsequent war victories.
The story of each maveeran who died in this will tell a story about the struggle.
Simon, who died heroically in this attack, fought heroically without changing his principles even when his father was shot by the movement in Colombo for treason. It was in this attack that the first Sinhala hero, Udugamage Kemasiri (Lep Pazhalsu), laid down his life for the liberation of Tamileelam.
It was on this battlefield that the national leader’s bodyguard, Mayuran, also known as Thuvaraka, who was the reason for the national leader to name his daughter Thuvaraka, died a heroic death.
Every fighter has a story like this. They are full of dedication and sacrifice that we cannot even imagine. This is especially the history of the rise of the Tigers.
Let us pass these on to the next generation. Let us resolve to continue fighting.
