The decade of the Eighties was a period when unprecedented violent earthquakes shook the island of Sri Lanka. During this period, the resistance movement of the LTTE, which rose in anger against the brutal government oppression, intensified with the speed of a hurricane.
During this decade, Tamileelam was bloodied like never before. The land of Tamileelam became a battlefield with Sinhalese invasions, Indian military occupation, and the anarchy of local mercenaries.
During this very turbulent period, Prabhakaran stood at the center of the storm and faced all opposition and led the heroic liberation struggle of the Tamils. That is why Prabhakaran should be considered the great man and the historical hero of this decade.
In this decade of history, which took many turning points in military, political, and diplomatic dimensions, the LTTE movement faced many complex challenges. Indian intervention is important in this. It is a great historical achievement of the LTTE to stand alone and fight against the Indian intervention, which began as diplomatic interference in mid-1983, escalated into direct military aggression in October 1987, and lasted until March 1990, and to win the war.
