The homeland of Manalaru

What happened to the NPP’s promise that it would not carry out any settlements that would change the ethnic composition?
The Kivul Oyath project is to be implemented with the aim of settling over four thousand Sinhala settlers in Manalaru. Shocking news has been released that the cabinet has given approval for it this week.

In 2011, during the reign of Mahinda Rajapaksa, this project was attempted to be implemented at a cost of 417 crore rupees. This project, which was to establish and stabilize Sinhala settlements in the name of the development of the L zone of the Mahaweli Development Project, was abandoned at that time due to opposition. Later, it was started during the tenure of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and was abandoned due to opposition from the Tamil people and the economic crisis. Now, the cabinet has given approval to expedite the project at a cost of 2,345 crore rupees.

Apart from renaming the Manalaru area in Mullaitivu district as Welioya, governments continue to seek to annex a large part of Mullaitivu.
