Desires…
They are unique.
Everyone plants and waters some seeds of desire in their minds. Desire is human nature-a natural feeling.
Ordinary people also desire to achieve something; historical figures also desire something and think about something.
The future of their children, the progress of the family economy… these are the ordinary desires of ordinary people.
To witness the liberation of the nation and every step towards that liberation with a cold eye… these are the ideal desires of historical figures.
The national leader has expressed many such ideal desires on various occasions.
The national leader expressed one of his ideal desires in this way while opening the Military Academy.
“I have a dream. My wish is that this dream should become a reality and a practical reality. A new generation of young people should emerge as the future architects of my nation. As energetic, intellectuals. As patriots, experts in the art of war, as honest and dignified, a new revolutionary generation should emerge. This generation should be the builders – administrators, rulers of our nation. This is a great desire. An unattainable dream. However, I am trying. I have a deep faith that effort will bear fruit.”
One day 15 years ago –
It was the late 1970s –
There were only a few members in the movement that could be contained on the fingers of both hands. The national leader himself provided military training for those members. That was the time when the national leader acted as the leader of the movement and at the same time as a training instructor.
Imagine in your mind the training camps of today with two or three hundred people, and the training camps of that day with five or ten people. It will be both amazing and proud.
It was a difficult time not only to train – give – conduct training camps, but also to get military uniforms for those five or ten people.
One day…
While explaining it to Anton Balasingham, the national leader said…
Brother!… I want to see a scene of fifty fighters in uniform – carrying weapons – standing in a line, he said.
The senior member, Lt. Seelan (Charles Anthony), carried the desire expressed by the national leader in his heart – until he died a martyr’s death – and worked. Sometime before he died a martyr’s death, he had to go to Yarlpanam city on some official work.
At that time. Yarlpanam city was under the complete control of the Sinhalese forces. When Seelan, who was riding a tricycle with a uniform, and another comrade who was with him, went up the main road inside the city, they saw Sinhalese soldiers standing in front of every shop there – after looking at the soldiers standing in a crowd with weapons on their shoulders, Seelan asked comrades, “Brother! Imagine standing in a crowd like these. Everywhere, with guns and weapons, laughing and joking!”
One of the national leader’s ideal desires also includes the commander who acted as the national leader’s right hand.
It is also visible that he directed him.
That commander who worked hard to fulfill the national leader’s ideal desire and was a wonderful example of sacrifice is no more today. But the national leader has created a brigade in his name and made his imagination come true.
The national leader’s desire to ‘see 50 LTTE fighters in uniform’ was fulfilled within four or five years of his publication. Later, it became fifty, one hundred, one hundred thousand – today – it has increased to thousands! The name ‘guerrilla group’ has changed and it has become the ‘strongest liberation movement in the world’. Our movement has also received praise!
Recently, when the Sinhalese forces engaged in a ‘forward leap’, the national leader performed a ‘Tiger leap’ against it.
The national leader, who wanted to see ’50 fighters lined up’, prepared to take part in the “Tiger leap” – thousands of LTTE fighters, men and women, dressed in striped tiger uniforms, with heavy weapons, lined up with their commanders. He said as he watched the majestic scene of them standing and taking the oath of allegiance….
“I am truly fascinated to see this!”
Like such small idealistic desires, there are also big dreams in the national leader’s mind. Like these desires. Those dreams will also come true one day!
