Thiyaga Thiraviyam Sivakumaran
The patriot Sivakumaran was the one who stood firm and stood firm despite any hardships to see the happiness of the homeland of Tamileelam. He was born on 26-08-1950 to the couple Ponnuthurai and Annalakshmi in Urumpirai Nagar. He was called Thiraviyam by his parents. He lived and showed himself as the Thiraviyam of Tamileelam, eating Tamil milk and crawling.
He grew up realizing his strength in his youth. He excelled in education. He stood as a fortress, saying that if Tamils were to suffer, destruction would be the greatest. Although the Tamileelam liberation struggle was developed very quickly and calmly by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. He was one of the notable ones who caused the uprising for the struggle in the early days. It is not an exaggeration to say that Sivakumaran is the one.
In his childhood, his life goals were to fight against injustice, eradicate untouchability, social justice, social development, eradicate untouchability, and engage in religious reforms. His prison life was an obstacle to his Tamil reform struggle. Shortly after his release from prison, his greatest aspiration was to establish a separate Tamil nation. When trials came, he bravely resisted them and established justice when injustice prevailed.
His actions that destroyed such unrighteousness and established righteousness are innumerable. Once, when a festival was taking place at the Nallur temple, the Sinhalese police took advantage of the crowd and behaved in an indecent manner with women. Sivakumaran was in the crowd at that time. He attacked them. As a result, the police arrested him and took him to the temporary police station at Nallur Temple and locked him up. There, a scuffle broke out between the police and him. The situation became worse, and many policemen gathered, rounded him up, put him in a jeep, took him to the Yarlpanam police station and put him in jail. After three days, his mother bailed him out and took him home.
Sivakumaran had the nature of opposing injustice, rejected the path of peaceful struggle and decided that only by taking up arms could the Eelam Tamils regain their lost rights and freedom. In 1971, he joined the Tamil Students’ Union and took a few young men with him and took direct action against the Sinhalese government and the Tamil traitors.
In 1971 and 1972, 42 members of the Students’ Union were arrested for the violent incidents that took place in the Tamil areas. Sivakumaran’s case failed due to lack of evidence and lack of proof. Sivakumaran comes out of prison.
Republic Day 1973. An unforgettable day in the history of Tamileelam. Many Tamil leaders asked to boycott this. Some people with treacherous intentions supported this and prepared for it. On this day, during the Sri Lankan national flag ceremony, which holds the lion, the symbol of the Sinhalese, they celebrated by tying their hands on both sides. At that moment, Sivakumaran looked at some of them and asked with anger, “Why are you doing this… aren’t you ashamed…?” Everyone fell silent at his arrogant words. After he said that, some of them said that they must teach him a good lesson and exchanged warnings among themselves. But somehow, he heard this exchange.
“Who wanted to teach me a lesson? If you dare, buy it before me”, he said with great anger, tied a stone to the end of a piece of rope and threw it at the foreign flag, took the flag down and tore it into hundreds of pieces and threw it away. Not only that, if anyone asks, tell them that Sivakumaran did this. He said that he would stay at home and left for home, saying in a zealous manner. That was the golden day in 1974 when many Tamils organized a research conference on the Tamil language. That. Many scholars and great people have been invited from many countries for that event. On that day, Sivakumaran was presiding over the volunteer council. The event was also going well. On that day, many scholars with special expertise were praising the Tamils and the Tamil language.
The Sri Lankan government, unable to tolerate scholars from all over the world speaking about Tamil and its special qualities, indiscriminately threw several tear gas shells, shot nine people with rifles, and burned the place to the ground. After a while, Sivakumaran, who arrived at the place, was met with torn clothes and the belongings of the people. Due to this, he felt pain and great desire. For this reason, at around one o’clock that night, he left for the city with two hand grenades in search of the police. But he did not see a single policeman that day. He went to Arulambalam’s house and threw two hand grenades at the guards who prevented him from entering, breaking their legs.
After 1974, Sivakumaran was accused by the Sri Lankan government as a complete terrorist. These days, the government has also announced a reward for information about him. For this, the government had also thrown many magic traps. But, in the end, it was a failure. At one point, Sivakumar needed money to carry out many activities against the Sri Lankan government during this period. For this, he joined three of his colleagues and started trying to raise money. At that time, there was a gunfight with the Sri Lankan police. He fought until the bullets ran out. In the end, thinking that he should not be captured alive by the enemy if the bullets ran out, he drank cyanide and died a heroic death.
Sivakumar’s sacrifice became an unforgettable historical record in the history of the Tamil people. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he was a force in the history of the Tamil struggle. It was the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam that implemented the thoughts of this martyr and made his dreams come true. The LTTE has fulfilled what he had imagined. It is a fact that cannot be hidden or denied that Sivakumar, who sacrificed his body, materially and spiritually for his motherland, created a turning point in the history of the Tamil struggle.
Let us rise bravely, carrying his dreams in our hearts.
