Tirupur Kumaran was a Tamil Indian National Liberation

Tirupur Kumaran was a Tamil Indian National Liberation War veteran. Born on October 4th, 1904 in a small town called Chennimalai in Erode district in Tamil Nadu. He participated in the Indian Liberation War against British Empire.

On January 11, 1932, while participating in a procession against the British colonial government, he was injured in an attack by the police. Even when he was attacked viciously by the police, he refused to lower down the Indian Congress flag, which had been banned by the British government.

He died in hospital on 7th April 1932 due to the injuries sustained in the procession. He is adorned with the epithet “Kodikatha Kumaran” which translate directly to; Kumaran who protected the flag”.
