TOWARDS OUR PLACES – Vaddakachchi

Vaddakachchi is an area under Karaichi Divisional Secretariat Division in Kilinochchi District. It is a big township consisting of many villages. Vaddakachchi can be entered through several gateways such as Puliyambokanai Santhi, Paranthan Santhi, Kakakadai Santhi, Iranimadu Santhi, Palaya Kandiveethi Ambakamacha Santhi, Tharumapura Santhi, Thotiyadi Santhi.  Vattakachi is an area located in the middle of the Vanni kingdom.

Karaichi region known as Karaichi Nadu, Kilinochchi district known as Kilinochchi, and Vaddakachchi is known as Vaddakachchi. Although it is said that the name Vaddakachchi is due to the circular roads in Vaddakachchi, but there is no historical link about the name of Vaddakachchi. From Periyakulam, known as old Vaddakachchi, to Karupipikulam, from the beginning of Iranimadukulam to Ramanathapuram, the continuation of the Kanagarayan river and bordering Pannangandi village, it looks like a miniature Kerala with fields, many small ponds and many small reservoirs for coconut palms.

 

With rice as the main industry, agriculture, animal husbandry are the main income producing in Vaddakachchi. The trail of humans lived in Iranaimadu thousands of years ago is to see.

People could have lived in places like Iranaimadu, Vaddakachchi, Pannangandi, Kandavala,  Thadduvankotti where there are many river and ponds. Then they moved from there when the dam was built during the British period. Then people gathered again from places like Jaffna and then through many immigration projects that took place after 1950, many people settled in Vaddakachchi area, enriched Vaddakacchhi, and started living prosperously.

Vaddakachchi region is very famous in education and sports. Football is a unique sport of Vaddakachchi region. Traditional sports, cow riding is very popular in Vaddakachchi region.

Vaddakachchi Central College, Iramanathapuram West A.T.K. School, Vaddakachchi Primary School, Vaddakachchi South Primary School, Mayavanur Primary School. Vaddakachchi has many schools, many Murugan temples, Ganesha temples, Iyanar temple, Amman temple, Christian churches and traditional and cultural ceremonies.

Vaddakachchi is a region with many community organizations, educational principals, teachers, department officials, many small employers and many farmers. Vaddakachchi is a prosperous region that relies on the water of the Iranimadu pond.
Vaddakachchi has flourished its contribution in Eelam freedom struggle and sacrificed lives for the freedom. Vaddakachchi continues to flourish in sacrifice, valor and wealth.
