Truth Never Sleeps..!

The person who drafted (authored) the Prevention of Terrorism Act was A. Wilson, the son-in-law of Father Selva. Alfred Wilson was born in 1928 to K. R. Wilson. He studied at Royal College, Colombo. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Ceylon and his doctorate from the London School of Economics.

Wilson married Sushili, the daughter of S. J. V. Chelvanayakam, the leader of the Federal Party (Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi). From 1978 to 1983, he served as a constitutional advisor to Sri Lankan President J. R. Jayewardene. It is said that he was the one who drafted the Prevention of Terrorism Act, which was tabled in Parliament by Justice Minister K. W. Devanayagam on June 19, 1979.

If this is true…

The person who drafted the law was Tamil (Alfred Wilson, son-in-law of Father Selva). The person who presented the law in Parliament was also Tamil (K. W. Devanayagam). The then Opposition Leader, who did not oppose or vote against it, was also Tamil (A. Amirthalingam of the Tamil United Liberation Front). And the people most affected by this draconian law were also Tamils. Such is the history of this cruel anti-terrorism law.

Why did Opposition Leader Amirthalingam not vote against it? Now it becomes clearer.
Perhaps Alfred Wilson, Father Selva’s son-in-law, might have told A. Amirthalingam not to oppose the law, saying it was only a temporary measure. This remains a suspicion! The cruel law that was tabled in Parliament on June 19, 1979, completed 46 years yesterday, June 19, 2025.

I share this post so that young people can learn about history…
